Story

UPDATE:- So... After already making it to Gothenburg ahead of 11th May (well, Gav has 25km to go but he tells us he'll definitely make it...) we've decided to extend our sojurn a touch by committing to add another 637km to the journey to take us from Gothenburg to Hamburg ahead of 22nd November 1983, the very date that the Dons faced off against the Germans in the 1st leg of our Super Cup triumph!

So... here on the ABZ Football Podcast, we've been raising money on a weekly basis to help donate to local causes in the Aberdeen & Shire areas. This season, we wanted to take things to a different level - so we've got a whole bunch of different ideas planned but this one here is the long-burn.

11th May 1983 is a date etched in the minds of every Aberdeen supporter as the mighty Dons travelled to that most magical of Swedish cities, Gothenburg, in pursuit of our first ever European trophy.

On that night in the Ullevi Stadium, 12 men in red humbled the aristocrats of Spain, Real Madrid, with a performance that will live long in the memory and the European Cup Winners' Cup found a new home in the hallowed hallways of Pittodrie.

11th May 2023 sees Aberdeen mark 40 years since that famous night in the Swedish rain and what better way to set ourselves a target that we are even now beginning to regret?

Each of us on the podcast, Gary, Gavin & Graham will each individually run/cycle/crawl the distance between Aberdeen and Gothenburg which, according to Google (and some rudimentary conversions) is 2,261km.

Our fundraising will be split this year between AberNecessities & the AFC Heritage Trust on a 50/50 basis.

Your donations and your support is much appreciated - keep checking back in on the page for updates on how we are getting on

About AFC Heritage Trust:-

The Aberdeen FC Heritage Trust is an independent charitable organisation working closely with Aberdeen FC in order to care for and expand upon the historical record and memorabilia of AFC, its supporters and the community it serves.

The Aberdeen FC Heritage Trust has been in invaluable source of information for our podcast and it is only right that we repay the contributors to the site in some way.
