Story
** Thanks to your generosity, we raised just over £6,500 on our previous crowdfunding page - it has now expired and we can't link to it from here but rest assured those funds are being used to fund the current season and beyond. Thanks again **
Shortly before midnight on Saturday 8th October; Sicklinghall’s Cricket Clubhouse was burnt down. All the buildings were destroyed, together with valuable machinery, equipment and memorabilia.
The cricket club has been a feature in village life for nearly 100 years and it's especially sad as this summer saw the exciting reintroduction of junior cricket. Coaching was provided by members of the 1st X1 and over 30 boys and girls regularly attended. An U9 team has been registered in the Wetherby League for 2017 and the children, who were understandably upset when they heard the news, are planning fund raising events themselves to try and help.
The club needs to recover from the tragedy of the fire and start to plan for new facilities to be built, not only for the senior team but also so that youngsters can continue to enjoy the wonderful team sport in the village.
This page has been set up to help fundraise as we know that our insurance can’t possibly cover the cost of a new building. We will need everyone’s support if we are to be ready for the new season in April, 2017. Many thanks, we really do appreciate any help.
