Weʼre raising £6,000 to provide birth basics for Gaza families

Don't have time to donate right now?

Story

There are 50,000 pregnant women in Gaza, 180 babies born daily. Mothers & babies are suffering & dying unnecessarily for lack of antenatal &
postnatal care, hospitals, antibiotics, anaesthetics, vaccines, clean water, food, shelter & safety.

We are supporting midwife Sharyn, who previously volunteered as a human rights observer with Red Crescent ambulances in Gaza. We are raising money to make a difference to Gaza birthing families. However, with continuing uncertainty, we have a Plan A, B, and C. Please only donate if you are ok with this.

A: If Gaza’s border with Egypt is allowed to open, many Gaza folk may exit, resulting in a refugee camp forming nearby. Sharyn would then hope to offer tent-based midwifery support there. Funds would cover expenses & buy kit to use & give away.

B: kit bought may be passed to other/s doing similar work

C: money fundraised may be passed to a reputable non-profit organisation
addressing same need on the ground

"As of April this year, at least 80,000 Palestinians from Gaza had crossed into Egypt...But with few work prospects, little aid support and dwindling savings, many are struggling to meet their basic needs. Nassim Touil, who helps coordinate assistance for Palestinians who have fled Gaza to Egypt, says there are refugees who can barely afford checkups and medications despite their desperate health needs." https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2024/6/6/israels-war-on-gaza-live-relentless-israeli-strikes-kill-102-palestinians

From S: thank you for enabling us to make this donation to UNFPA, who are collaborating on maintaining obstetric services in a field tent on the ground in Rafah, despite this area being under attack. You can read their latest report here: https://palestine.unfpa.org/en/sitrep8

From S: Rafah is under attack. The Kuwaiti hospital there has closed today as a result after two of its medical staff were killed. As of 6 days ago, this International Medical Corps field tent, supported by UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund), was the only place for birthing women to access comprehensive obstetric care including C-sections. So we are sending UNFPA £350 immediately from your donations. THANK YOU.
