Story
On Saturday 12th May intrepid travellers Gary Lockett, Mike Paterson, Robert Plant, Ciaran Woods and support driver Shane Chapman set out to North Wales to take on the 3 Peak Challenge but with the added twist of cycling 450 miles over 7 days in between.
The idea came from Gary last year while looking for a fresh challenge following his 600 mile ride in 2016 from Southend, Essex, to Southend, Argyllshire, raising money for his great local cause Havens Hospices. Mike stupidly promised he’d be on the next adventure to mark his reaching the ripe old age of 60 in April and remembering those in his life not so lucky to have made it that far. So it is then that the fearless/headless four now set out on their quest.
Some serious training hours (and some much warranted periods of sobriety!) have been banked for what will undoubtedly be an arduous trip. The challenge began by climbing Snowdon on Sunday 13th before jumping on the bikes then cycling over 2 days to climb Scafell Pike 165 miles away. Then another 3 days of riding 250 miles before finally completing the task with Ben Nevis the last peak to conquer on the 19th.
The challenge will be raising money for a variety of good causes including mental health awareness (www.thelewisproject.org.uk), stroke related issues/care, and breast cancer exercise rehabilitation (www.beat-it-canrehab.co.uk).
We'll be tweeting some updates from @MSPFX and @MikePatersonFX and find CiaranWoods on FB so be sure to follow us there and retweet/repost to spread the word.
Gary, Mike, Robert and Ciaran thank you all in advance for your generosity and support. Bring on the challenge!
