Story
In January 07 I had a below knee amputation, the result of an unknown blood disorder contracted whilst serving abroad on exercise with the Royal Navy. After my operation I had the pleasure of attending the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at RAF Headley Court.
Headley is an astonishing place, not only for the professional Doctors, Nurses, and countless therapists but also the people whom I was living and in full time rehab with.
Headley is now near capacity with the Wars in Iraq & Afghanistan unfortunately not easing. Marines, Soldiers and Airmen are still flowing through the doors. This as In any case is taking its toll, as our injured servicemen/women arrive at Headley the more equipment and facilities are so desperately needed.
The Defence Medical Rehabilitation centre in Epsom, Surrey has helped me in so many ways. Whether it was helping me to walk again, regaining confidence, achieving fitness goals or being able to communicate with others in the same situation.
This website www.helpforheroes.org.uk has been set up primarily to raise funds for Headley’s demands.
I feel like I need to repay not only Staff at Headley court but also the inspirational men & women I have been so fortunate to meet. These individuals have been injured whilst performing an active duty for our country.
I have managed to grab myself a place on the Big Battlefield Bike Ride (BBBR) which this website has set up. It is a magnificent cause with huge benefits for a great place. I would be more than grateful if you would take 5 minutes of your time to read through the following.

INTRODUCTION
There will be 300 riders on a bike ride through the battlefields of Northern France to raise money to support our wounded.
The ride will begin on May 26th 2008 in Portsmouth before crossing to the beaches of Normandy, via Dieppe to the Somme and then to Calais. We will cross to Dover early on 1st June and travel by coach to London where we will join other rides and form a large group that will ride through the capital to the Cenotaph.
Each rider will be a fund-raiser and will pledge to raise a minimum of £2000 so this will require commitment and a certain amount of your time.
ITINERARY
7 days / 6 nights
Depart: Portsmouth – Caen - 26th May 2008
Return: Calais – London - 1st June 2008
Our exciting cycle challenge takes us from HMS Victory in Portsmouth, a hugely important part of naval history – across the channel to Caen and Northern France.
This challenging route traces some of the region’s most significant WW1 & WW2 battle sites, including the Normandy Landing beaches and Theipval on the Somme.
This will be a great physical challenge, but also an amazing emotional journey as we visit some of the memorial sites in the Somme. We finish our challenge by cycling through central London to the Cenotaph.
I am partaking this immense challenge with the Headley Court team. Consisting of 5 patients & 5 members of Staff.
