REGION RELAY FUNDRAISER FOR MENCAP.

We are working together as a Region to raise money for Mencap, the charity for people of all ages with learning disabilities. This is our chosen charity for 2011 and we hope that you will agree that it is a worthwhile cause.

To raise the money we will be walking or cycling the 20 branches in our Region, carrying the Region Torch from branch to branch. Our Region is split over 5 distinct areas, London, Kent, Brighton, Southampton and one in Dorset. We have therefore given ourselves the challenge of linking our branches together over a 4 day event that will take place on 13th and 20th August and 10th and 11th of September. Our teams will share the workload of the challenge and contribute to each leg of the journey by cycling or walking from their branch to the next whilst the RDM will cycle the entire route to link them all together. It is a long way and a tough challenge but that is why we chose it to stretch ourselves to the limit to raise money for the people, family and carers with learning disability in their lives.

We will continually update you on each leg of our journey from each of our teams. We will soon write up the route of our journey and welcome any other volunteers, family and friends to come and join us.

The teams have also been raising money in the branch: Raffles, bric a brac, guess the teddy name, cake baking/selling and may more. The teams have really got into the fundraising so much so that we recently extended our target from £5000 to £8000.00, aiming to raise the most money across 31 other Regions like ours.

A special thanks to Ross and his team in Swanage for their efforts who raised a massive £1400 in one week with their Saturday bric a brac sale in the Swanage food entrance and in store "how may sweets in the jar." Thanks to all our loyal Swanage patients and customers for their support that day.
