Story

What did we do in 24 hours?

Eat 1024 jelly beans? Consume 9 kilos of pasta? How about cycle 300 miles in 22 hours, with 2 hours to spare for a cup of tea and a sit down?

On Saturday 30th June, five members of the Clyde Amateur Rowing Club cycled 300 miles from Glasgow to John O'Groats.

Through the rain, through the pain, the dark, the cramps, the cold, the rain, the fog, the midges, the constant eating and drinking, the rain, the dodgy knee, the dislocated finger, the hills, the rain, the bad jokes, and the one (count it, one!) puncture, they managed it with smiles on their faces.

A huge thanks must go out to the support team, without whom this really wouldn't have been possible. The drivers, the guys who cycled with the group to pace them along, the chefs who had food available at every single opportunity, the mechanics (Fran!) and everyone else who did a bit of everything, thank you.

A mention must also go out to Mr & Mrs Walsh, who very kindly kept us fed, watered and sheltered - with hot soup and baguettes on the way out, and bolognese on the way home.

On another note, we have full unmentionable region integrity for those that took part, which must be worth a few extra £££s.

There's also video being edited as we speak, and photos to prove it all happened.

For those of you who are checking back on our progress:

Thank you so so much for donating your hard-earned pennies for such a ridiculous show of stubbornness. It's been really touching for all of us to see the total moving up every time we look. We're sure that all the money you've donated will make a lot of difference to many people.

For those of you who are here for the first time:

There's still time to donate! Our three charities include; Everyman Cancer Research, Scottish International Relief and The Yorkhill Children's Foundation.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: The charities will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Thanks very much again for your support,

Clyde ARC
