On the 18th January 2006 I depart for Africa where I will embark on a 12 day journey to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's greatest mountain and the world's highest freestanding mountain at 19000ft. The toughest day will be the day we reach the summit, starting at midnight it involves 3340ft of ascent, 7800ft of descent and 12-15 hours of walking. During the trek we will wash in streams, dig holes to use as toilets and experience ranging temperatures from warm days to nights well below zero degrees (remember I'll be in a tent!) As well as a massive personal challenge it is an opportunity to raise money for a fantastic charity that I will tell you more about below.
Cystic Fibrosis is the UK's most common life-threatening inherited disease and affects more than 7500 babies, children and young adults in the UK. It is a genetic disease which affects vital organs in the body, especially the lungs and digestive system, by clogging them with thick, sticky mucus.
At present there is no cure for CF, but the faulty gene has been identified and doctors and scientists are working to find ways of repairing or replacing it. One of the main objectives of the CF Trust is to fund this work. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the UK's only national charity working to fund research into a cure and to ensure appropriate clinical care and support for people with CF. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cystic Fibrosis Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor me now! Thank you so much for your support and wish me luck!! xxxxx
