Story

Thanks for visiting my page!

I'd love it if you could help me to support this worthwhile charity. Whatever you can afford is much appreciated.

This is a great charity to donate to as it really does improve the lives of people who are still considered by some to be second class citizens.  There is a ridiculous amount of prejudice against people with a learning disability and Mencap aims to help by providing individuals with opportunities to look after themselves, work and have relationships, live independent lives. Mencap also educates the public and lobbies for changes in the law which still discriminates against people with learning disabilities. They provide support for carers, supporters and families through websites, phones centres, residential services and local network groups.

It’s not the usual ‘sexy’ charity that gets lots of publicity and donations – it’s drastically underfunded. The majority of the donations come from people who have bequeathed funds in their wills, but this is decreasing and only a small percentage comes from ‘chuggers’ or monthly donations. My dad has worked for Mencap for 15 years, and I grew up around people with learning disabilities, so I know the positive impact Mencap has on people’s lives.  For more info, have a look at http://www.mencap.org.uk/

Anything you can donate is fantastic! Thanks for your help.
