Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We've also got a facebook group that you can join as well. In preparation for our 3 Peaks Challenge, we have completed a multitude of practise walks around Wales and we are for the most part confident we should hit our target pending any medical disasters.
Update : 15/June/2010.
What can I say. We have finished the challenge !!!. A massive congratulations to all that participated and a gignormous thanks to all who donated. The site will left open to accept donations for a little while to pick up the stragglers and folkes who sponsored by the peak. A full recount of the tale will be available for all to view in due course, I just need to edit this page from home.
Again, thanks to all who donated. This was a thouroughly worth while challenge and we are all very grateful to have been able to support Velindre in the process. :-)

Update : Walk four : 30/Jan/2010 - Fan Brycheiniog
Well, we have successfully completed yet another training session. Present this time were Stuart, Steve, David (H), myself (Phill), Mark Rice-Jones and Wendy. We made had decided to make a slight change to the suggested route for today’s walk after a suggestion from Mr H, so that we attacked the steepest ridge on the ascent first. This meant that the long journey back to the cars would be a gradual descent rather than a vertical drop. Today’s walk would see several stream crossings and some fairly impressively views as well as some very cold temperatures, some blinding sun and some bitingly bitter winds. We set off from the car park at 9:30 sharp and walked for two hours until 11:30 when we stopped for a spot of lunch. The cheese in my sandwiches had gone stiff it was so cold... but i digress. We stopped for lunch just shy of the first peak as it had been a lot of up by this point. The next half hour saw a push to the top. When we hit the top, the wind was extremely cold, the ice was plentiful and for some reason, there were quite a number of people up there. Some cracking views, some photos a bit more tea and some sitting and we were off again. Not much hanging around for any of us today!. Some more water features were presented for us to transverse and the slow trudge back to the cars saw Mark and I suffering in the joints a bit from the descent. We arrived back at the cars after the sun started to disappear behind the horizon at 16:30. This was a very good walk, a touch long maybe, but we estimate to have covered approx 21km today. A good day all in all.
Update : Walk three : 02/Jan/2010 - Waun Fach
This was by all accounts an excellent day as the snow made for a fabulous setting for the walk. Present were Wendy, Dave, Duncan, Rob, Stuart and Kieran (stuarts boy) and some of the pictures from this walk are most impressive. The snow did however make for a very difficult walk, slow going and very cold. There will be some pictures available hopefully sometime Monday. Apologies for the late update on this trip, Christmas and January always takes a bit of time to play catch up with things.
Update : Walk two : 30/Nov/2009 - Sugar Loaf
We have now completed our second training session. It was quite tough. There was a good turn out for this one. Myself (phill c), Rob, Mr Howells, Duncan, Wendy, Steve and his family and Gail turned up for 10:00. We set off at about 10:30 and progressed quite well despite slippery ground conditions, very cold winds and vast quantities of rain and sleet.
We also now have (courtesy of myself) a dedicated site setup with a gallery of images (http://ciu.shellscripts.co.uk/gallery). The actual website at http://ciu.shellscripts.co.uk/ is empty at the moment but myself and Rob have plans for this if time allows which could be quite an impressive addition to the challenge and information available to those who are following... anyway.. i digest...
The walk all in all took us about 4 hours to get through.
Cheers all.
Update : Walk one : 06/Nov/2009 - Twmbarlwn
Well, we managed to get through our first training session relatively un-scathed. Rob was sick, Stuart had eaten too many sausages for breakfast, my knees felt like a bag of smashed crabs by the end of the day and Mr Howells managed to get through it fine. So all in all, pretty much what we expected from our first event. We probably attacked it a little vigourously for our first training session (hense the sicking and gammy knees) but if we can do that kind of speed for the actual peaks, we'll be sorted. We departed at 10:30, stopped at 12:30 for a half hour lunch and made it back to the car park by 14:15 for tea and biscuits.
Hopefully there will be a bit of a better turn out for the next event for which we shall be finalising a date shortly. Watch this space for photographic evidence of the event(s) which I shall make available through either a gallery of somekind or open facebook group or perhaps even the flickr website... yes, probably the flickr website will be the best option, but leave it with me...
