I am a 71 year old cyclist who in January 2011 was diagnosed with Mesothelioma, which is a terminal lung disease caused by exposure to Asbestos many years ago.

After having radiotherapy and Chemotherapy I am now back on my bike all my Ct scan/X rays are showing no change to the disease.

I have set myself a personal challenge to ride 'Les Cingles du Mont Ventoux' sometime late June 2012, the ride consists of  ascents of the mountain from the 3 main routes Bedoin, Malaucene, & Sault a total distance of 136kms and 4443mtrs of vertical climbing this has to be done on the same day 'Cingles' translated is  Nuts or Crazy, ''nuts is not the one who climbs the Ventoux, but really nuts who does it again''.

The Ventoux has never been kind to anyone, the 'Mistral' a very strong wind,Cold, Heat,Thunderstorms are to be expected at anytime.

I am doing the challenge to raise funds for the June Hancock Trust, they support victims and thier families and contribute towards research into this terrible disease, you have very little warning as it creeps up on you over 10 to 60 years and is TERMINAL.

I have times when I am feeling low when this happens I either get on my bike and go for a long ride or change my thought pattern to something more positive.

I am a member of Seacroft Wheelers cycling club based in Leeds, my club mates had been very supportive during my journey through treatment and awarded me club person of the year for 2011.

On Sunday the 24th of June I completed les Cingles du Mont - Ventoux in 8hrs 40min 45sec.

I had a decent day at the start it was a balmy 25c I new I would pay later when the temperature reached a blistering 42c on the 2nd climb from Malaucene, and the final 6kms of climbing the Mistral struck me down to 4mph. M
