Story
Dear All,
Thanks so much to all of you who supported and or sponsored us in our attempt to raise £100,000 for BLESMA - the national charity for limbless serving and ex service men and women. This is just a quick line to let you know the London Marathon Bomb Suit Challenge was a success and thanks to Ian Madgett beasting me around the 26 mile route, I managed to cross the finish line in the 75lb suit in 6hrs 56mins. It was very, very unpleasant but definitely worth it.
I went through about 12 litres of fluids and my core body temperature went up to 39.7 degs, which for those in the know is 0.3 degs away from permanent tissue damage. I also had to swallow a micro thermometer and transmitter prior to the race, and obviously what goes in has to come out, which in my books was worth 100 grand in sponsorship in itself!!!
We’ve raised just over £2000 so far, so only another £98000 to go!!! To that end, any further personal contributions would be greatly appreciated. Please give generously by following the link: http://www.justgiving.com/chrishunter4 or sending a cheque made payable to ‘BLESMA’ to: Blesma, 185-187 High Road, Chadwell Heath, Romford, Essex RM6 6NA. Please write ‘London Marathon Bomb Suit Challenge’ on the back of the cheque.
Thanks and Best Wishes
Chris
PS. I almost forgot: The run is going into the Guinness Book of World Records as a new category: “Fastest Ever Marathon in a Bomb Disposal Suit” so anybody who fancies doing something a little ‘alternative’ next year, please be my guest and have a shot at setting a new world record. I’m not sure I’ll be doing it again!
