Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Chloe Corrigan's tragic death.  To commemorate this very special occasion John Corrigan has set himself one of the biggest challenges yet:
The Ten Tops Trek.

This is walking the Ten highest peaks in each of the 9 Ulster Counties and then Slieve Foye in Louth, just for good measure!!  Not only has he set himself the challenge... oh no... he has set himself a time limit!  In keeping with the theme of "Ten Tops for Ten years"......well whats 10 x 10....

Thats right, 100 hours to complete this challenge.  Thats 100 hours from start to finish.

Now let me give you a geography lesson!  The mountains he will be climbing are:
Slieve Donard in Down, Trostan in Antrim,
Sawel in Tyrone and Derry, Errigal in Donegal,
Cuilcagh in Fermanagh and Cavan, Slieve Beagh in Monaghan,
Slieve Gullion in Armagh and Slieve Foye in Louth.
....In 4 days.

Now for the history lesson....
For any of you who dont know the back story, John lost his granddaughter Chloe in a car accident in November 2002.  At, what was obviously a very trying time, He thought about what experiances he would be missing out on now that she was no longer there.  Then he thought about the the people who would never know her, and this hurt just as much.  To keep her memory and spirit alive, John set up the Chloe Corrigan Memorial Fund through Concern Worldwide.  From that moment to this, he has raised approx £20,000 from various physical challenges.

We want you to help us make that amount soar!! Rather than look back at the last ten years with sadness and regret, we want to look to the future of the THOUSANDS of children's lives that we have all helped to change in the name of Chloe. And i do mean ALL OF US!! Without peoples enormous genorisity (and John's determination) we would never have come close to what has been achieved.  So far, a self sufficient school has been built from scratch and several other schools have received funding to help with education projets in Kenya.

Now we are focusing on education projects in Haiti.  Over 50% of Haiti's population is school age yet over half the population is illiterate.  Many children cannot afford the costs of education in Haiti because the average family makes less than $1 a day (this is roughly 63 pence in STG).  The government does not provide adequate funding for public schools and most families cannot afford the costs of private education, this can be as little as $20 a year (thats roughly £12.70... A YEAR!!!!)  Not to mention that 86% of schools were destroyed or damaged in the earthquake.  We want to change this... and with your help we can.  So now its time to ask you all to dig deep.  I know that people are struggling themselves here with employment at an all time low and the banks.... well, the least said the better!! But anything is better than nothing!!!

You may see some donations on this page are from 2010/2011. This was for the last big challange that John completed and, while we are grateful for these donations, these have already been passed through Concern and are no longer valid for the total we wish to raise this time.

As always we would like to THANK YOU in advance for any donations that are made as every penny is appreciated.  Keeping that in mind, if you are a UK tax payer PLEASE click the GIFT AID button to ensure your generous donation comes to us and not the government, it's easy, FREE and it wont cost you any extra.

Lets make this ten year anniversary something to really remember... for all the right reasons!!!

Thanks again,
The Corrigan Family. xx
