About our challenge
In 2013, our team Andy's Channel Ladies smashed the World Record for the fastest 2 way crossing of the English Channel, completing the swim in 18hrs 13mins, a record we still hold to this day. We want to go one step further in October and break the 3 way World Record too, which currently stands at 32hrs 31mins!
What we will encounter on the swim
- 63 miles of swimming minimum (we will swim further due to tides)
- Water temps between 13 and 16 degrees C (no wetsuits are allowed)
- Stinging jellyfish
- Swimming round the clock, including through the night in complete darkness
- Rough seas
- Floating debris and thick seaweed
- The Channel is the busiest shipping lane in the world with up to 500 tankers, container ships, ferries and fishing vessels passing through the narrow straight every day. The M25 of shipping!
Our chosen charitiesThe British Heart Foundation is a cause close to many of us - 3 team members have required their help in the past. We are also supporting UNICEF, one of our team is an ambassador for the charity and was lucky enough to travel to Papua New Guinea to see first hand the amazing work they do.
These are fantastic charities that help so many people both in the UK and worldwide, please support us if you can - any amount no matter how small will be gratefully received! Thank you so much.
