Story
Hi! and thanks for coming to the site!!!
As you can see... I've reached the minimum fundraising target... but don't let that stop you donating! I want to raise as much as I possibly can for the NDCS! :o)
Those of ye who know me well know how much I like to talk! Even though I listen as well, it was only recently that I discovered how much of a gift hearing is.
In April 2006, I went temporarily deaf as a result of a misdiagnosed ear infection... and subsequently tried to decipher words from a mixture of lip reading and vibrations. It's only when you actually step into someone's shoes that you can get a feeling for what dealing with this could be like on an ongoing, and permanent, basis... and personally, it's made me think alot more about something I just took for granted. We really don't appreciate something fully until we lose it.
So?!? What can we do about it?!
Well, I can get on my bike for one, and raise some money for a very deserving charity! And you!? You can get behind me in the figurative sense (though I dare say I wouldn't mind a push or two through the desert from time to time!!!)
Between 23 Mar 2007 - 01 Apr 2007, I'll be cycling about 400kms from Twyfelfontein to Etosha National Park... Camping out in the desert with lions and elephants for company!!! I'll be seriously grubby and rugged by the end of the challenge!!! :o) And not at all like the picture top left!
As always, I'll be paying my way in the event, as I don't want you to pay for a "holiday" for me! I am going to put £1000 of my own money into the kitty, so that the money raised goes towards the charity itself, where it's needed.
So... although I would love to see you in person, for a chat or maybe at one of the fundraising nights I'll be holding, you can also donate through this site.
It's simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The National Deaf Children's Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
www.carolinebikingnamibia.com is up and running, so check back in April to see some pics and read the travelogue about the whole thing!!!
Thanks again for helping! And watch this space!
