Story
On 23rd August, a team will set out on what is undoubtedly the most challenging fundraiser we have yet attempted – “The William Duncan 500 Challenge” which will see our team cycle 500 miles in five days, starting in John o’Groats, all the way along the North coast, down the West coast, arriving back in Ayr on Monday 27th August. The team undertaking the challenge comprises Directors Stephen Bargh and Kevin Ottley, Head of Tax Alastair Johnston and Audit manager Euan Pope, all of whom are keen cyclists and are well into their training regime. This will be a gruelling challenge for the team as it is not a relay – every cyclist will complete the full distance!
The William Duncan Charitable Trust was set up a few years ago, and raises and donates monies to many and varied local community causes and charities. For this challenge, we have decided we will donate 50% of the funds raised to “Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland” - this is being done in memory of one of our team members, Susan Hastings, who tragically passed away earlier this year after suffering a stroke. Susan was an integral part of the William Duncan family and we were devastated to lose such a positive, valued and popular member of our team. The other 50% raised will be donated to local community/charitable groups who apply to the William Duncan Charitable Trust. By raising funds in Susan’s name and donating to Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland and other worthy local causes, we hope in some small way, to remember Susan and her kindness and friendship.
The costs of the WDC500 cycle challenge are being met in full by William Duncan + Co. All of the monies raised will go directly to support CHSS and local community/charity groups and good causes.
