Story
Cardiovascular disease accounts for a third of all deaths in Wales. In 5 years Welsh Hearts have saved 15 peoples lives as a result of placing Defibrillators and teaching CPR in Wales!
Every second counts when you are having a cardiac arrest. There are 8000 sudden cardiac arrests outside of hospital in Wales every year, and currently, only a 3% survival rate. A Defibrillator is able to restart the heart during a cardiac arrest, and can save lives. When used, the survival rate can increase to 74%, but a speedy response is crucial. This is the reason we have launched the Brains Heartbeat initiative. For every minute without CPR and defibrillation, a person’s chance of survival decreases by around 10%, A Defibrillator is an automatic device that can be used by the public to shock the heart back into a normal rhythm during cardiac arrest. By performing CPR and using a Defibrillator until an ambulance arrives, the victim’s chance of survival can double. This Defibrillator equipment will be for the use of all Brains patrons, customers and the whole community within which Brains managed houses are proud to be a part of.
This is why this partnership will be known as the Brains Heartbeat Initiative, because the Brains managed houses really are at the heartbeat of the community. Indeed, once all Brains managed houses have been equipped with Defibrillators, the Brains Heartbeat Initiative will then continue to place Defibrillators in communities all over Wales.
You can donate as little or as much as you want in the knowledge that every pound raised will be used to purchase a lifesaving Defibrillator and provide equally important CPR/Defibrillator training. It costs over £1500 to supply, maintain and install a public access Defibrillator but you can’t put a price on a life saved!
