Story
The NAWT Clacton centre rescues and rehomes many homeless and abandoned dogs each year. We understand that dogs often find the kennel environment unsettling and stressful and so we’re always on the lookout for ways to reduce stress, stimulate the dog’s minds and enrich their time with us.
This spring, we hope to create an exciting sensory garden! The garden will be designed to engage and stimulate the dog’s senses; it will include a variety of sights, sounds, smells and textures and will provide the dogs with novel, positive experiences to help them relax and boost their confidence.
We’ll use a variety of plants, all carefully selected for their beneficial properties to dogs. A sensory path will offer the dogs different textures and surfaces, and areas of different heights will be built along with a living willow dome the dogs can explore. Amongst all of this will be fun, interactive opportunities such as a digging section, water play area, ball pits, tyre tunnels and treat-seeking zones.
Please help us on our quest to create this quiet yet stimulating area to reduce the stress of kennel life for homeless dogs in our care and enrich their time with us whilst they wait for a forever home.
