Story
Recently, we welcomed Twiglet, a very tiny chihuahua, into the care of Furlock Holmes Animal Rescue. At just four months old, Twiglet weighed a mere 650g, making her one of the smallest dogs we've encountered. Sadly, the extreme breeding practices employed to achieve her diminutive, yet supposedly desirable, size have left her with numerous health complications.
Twiglet's journey has been marked by both resilience and struggle. Despite her fragile state, she had slowly been gaining weight and energy. She captured the hearts of everyone she met and developed quite the fan club!
However, a sudden collapse on Monday morning brought us to the brink of losing her. Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of our vet and his team, Twiglet has received intensive care, including oxygen, fluids, and a range of medications.
Though her path to recovery is still uncertain and she is certainly not out of the woods yet, she has begun to show promising signs, including a slight appetite for food.
As Twiglet faces this challenging road to recovery, we're reaching out for your support to cover her veterinary costs. But beyond financial assistance, we aim to raise awareness around the profound health issues and suffering that often accompany the breeding of such tiny dogs.
Although Twiglet has faced a horrendous ordeal for the financial gain of her breeder, we hope Twiglet's story will inspire others to think twice before breeding, or purchasing, these "teacup" breeds.
