Story
Tom is 21 years old, and currently training to undertake probably the most challenging event of his life.
Over recent years, he's faced mental health struggles, which he describes as 'a relentless battle, a storm that I've weathered day in and day out'.
He credits his mental persistence for keeping him going. And in June, he's taking on a challenge that mirrors the journey of mental persistence - the Ultimate Triathlon - a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a full marathon of 26.2 miles – all in one day. A gruelling, unyielding test of strength and stamina.
What's Tom's motivation?
He says, "It's my way of honouring a dear friend I lost to suicide, my housemate from university. It's a tribute to his memory and a reminder that even in our darkest moments, we have the strength to persevere".
He'll be raising funds for FCN along the way, so we can continue to support farmers struggling with their own mental health. The challenges faced by farmers in the UK are immense at the present time, and our charity relies solely on grants and donations for our staff and volunteers to continue to support those having a difficult time.
Because together, we can turn the tide on mental health struggles, one stroke, one pedal, and one step at a time.
Tom continues, "This Triathlon is my canvas to paint a story of triumph over adversity, a narrative that screams, 'you can push through.' I invite you to join me on this journey, to support not just my endeavour but the cause it represents – mental health awareness in the farming community."
