Story
Rushmoor Muslim Association (RMA):
About
RMA is a non-profit charity established by local Muslim residents in 2022, serving Rushmoor Borough and surrounding areas. Our mission is to provide public benefit by establishing a place of worship in Rushmoor. We are committed to fostering collaboration with interfaith communities, promoting tolerance, building bridges, and driving positive change. We also focus on supporting civil improvements, offering religious guidance, and assisting individuals facing hardship or distress.
Location
Rushmoor is a local government district and borough in Hampshire, England, bordering Surrey. It encompasses the towns of Aldershot and Farnborough.
Muslim Community
Alhamdulillah, our community has grown to over 2,500 Muslims from diverse backgrounds, and our numbers continue to increase. Despite this growth, we are currently dependent on renting public venues for our prayers, as there is no community center in Rushmoor or the surrounding areas large enough to accommodate our expanding community.
Community Services
We are urgently seeking to purchase a permanent place of worship. At present, we are holding Friday prayers (Jumah) in a Christian church.
A place of worship is more than just a building, it is the heart of the community, offering support, guidance, and a place for spiritual growth.
Having our own space will allow us to enrich the lives of our community, offering daily prayers, Quranic classes for children, funeral services, and more.
Since our establishment, we have already supported the poor and needy, providing food and clothing to those arriving in the UK, offering Ramadan meals twice a day, supporting families during bereavements, and organizing donations for the less fortunate worldwide. However, we can do much more if we have a permanent space to call our own.
Premises
The Rushmoor Muslim Association (RMA) is pleased to announce plans to purchase a property at 67 Victoria Road, Aldershot, to serve as our community centre. This centrally located property, near the old post office, spans three floors and a cellar, offering ample space for daily prayers, children’s religious classes, Ramadan Taraweeh prayers, and other community gatherings.
Immediate Goals
Stage 1: Property purchase - £328,500
Stage 2: Small refurbishment work to make the space suitable for prayers, classes, and events - £40,000
Current Funding
Alhamdulillah, we have already raised £190,000 and still need approximately £180,000 to complete both stages, including making the property fit for purpose.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Whoever builds a place of worship for Allah, Allah will build for him likewise in Paradise.
