Story
Peter Amis, long-time member of the Talisman Theatre Kenilworth is undertaking an Aerobatic Wing walk to raise for funds for the Talisman Theatre Development. It would be great if any Talisman friends who are free could go along on the day to cheer Peter on.
Peter and his wife Penny have been members of the Talisman Theatre for over 50 years. Initially encouraged by Penny to join (if you can't beat them why not join them!) Peter took on the position of Front of House manager for some years, appeared on stage in the occasional role, but mainly his acting talents were predominant when he became Chairman of the Talismans Palace of Varieties. An extravaganza of Music Hall, the Palace of Varieties was originally formed to raise money when the old theatre was pulled down to make way for the building of Talisman Square, and the members were busy fundraising for the current theatre. This proved so successful that the show continued to tour for years in theatres, schools, village halls etc all over Warwickshire and beyond and raised thousands of pounds towards the upkeep and growth of the theatre. So now its time to help with the current exciting development.
At the ripe old age of 87 Peter thought why not do something a bit risky and a bit mad. So he has booked a sponsored wing walk on15th July at 2pm! The flight will last around 15 minutes and he'll fly up to a height of 2,500 feet at speeds of up to 150 mph, on top of a 1940s Boeing biplane.
To add to the excitement, it will be an aerobatic wing walk, flying upside down, loop the loop, high speed dips and dives. To find out more you can look at Go Wing Walkings website at www.gowingwalking.com .
Its a scary thing to do, but Peter is spurred on by the thought that he'll be helping with fundraising for the Talisman in its goal to create a better environment for local arts and theatre and the wider community. Since the start of the project the price of building materials has increased dramatically. Peter's aim is to raise funding to provide furniture, fittings and equipment for the finished extension. His goal is to raise at least £3,000 which would help considerably. So, if you can sponsor him, please do so here.
Peters flight takes place at RFC Rendcomb, The Whiteway, Cirencester, Gloucestershire GL7 7DF on Friday 15 July at approximately 2pm. Spectators are very welcome!
