Story
Durham University’s esteemed competitive A Cappella group, Northern Lights, is once again embarking on a journey to New York City to compete in the Finals of the International Competition of Collegiate A Cappella. Building on the momentum from last year's UK win, Northern Lights has experienced remarkable growth and success. This past year has seen the group achieve new heights of excellence, marked by the release of an award-winning album, the raising of over £2000 for our local partner charity, and the production of a sell-out, 5-star Fringe show. Northern Lights are thrilled to announce their move to a larger venue for the upcoming Edinburgh Fringe Festival, enabling them to reach a broader audience and generate income to sustain Northern Lights’ continued growth.
Your contribution to this fundraiser will not only help Generation 11 of Northern Lights realise their dream of competing in New York but will also ensure the group's financial stability as they approach their largest Edinburgh Fringe run to date, allowing them to continue creating and sharing their music on a platform elevated for generations to come.
Winning this year's UK Semi-Final by a 30-point margin, Northern Lights are confident in producing the strongest sound in their history and cannot wait to showcase their hard work on the Broadway stage. It is an honour for the group to represent the vibrant and thriving A Cappella community that the UK offers on an international platform.
Northern Lights comprises 15 incredibly talented individuals currently studying at Durham University, spanning nine years in age, ten different colleges, and nine different degree courses from Music to Computer Science. Beyond singing together for at least six hours a week, they have formed close friendships, making it a dream come true to represent the University and the United Kingdom as a team on a Broadway stage. Of the seven new members and eight returning members, only three had prior A Cappella experience before joining Durham University, and none envisioned becoming UK Champions in their field.
If you can, please donate; anything big or small will make a monumental difference! From all of the group, we are beyond grateful for your continued support and we hope to continue sharing our music and making Durham University proud.
