Run for the Hearts That Can’t Be Heard
On Sunday 25 April 2027, thousands of people will take to the streets of London.
They will run for loved ones.
They will run for causes close to their hearts.
They will run because they believe that, together, we can make a difference.
But among those thousands of runners, there will be people running for something that is frighteningly difficult to see — and impossible to ignore once you understand it.
They will be running for the people whose lives have been changed forever by myocarditis.
Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle. It can affect anyone, but it can be devastatingly unpredictable. A person can appear fit and healthy, get on with their everyday life, play sport, go to work or university — and yet have a condition affecting the very organ keeping them alive.
In the UK, myocarditis kills one young adult every week.
It is also the third biggest silent killer of young adults in the developed world.
And that is why this marathon matters.
Because every mile our runners complete is helping us get closer to a future where fewer young people and families are unnecessarily affected. A future where myocarditis is recognised earlier. A future where doctors have better tools to diagnose it. A future where treatments are more effective. And, ultimately, a future where families don't have to receive the phone call that changes everything.
The silent danger
One of the most frightening things about myocarditis is that it can be difficult to recognise.
Its symptoms can be confused with other conditions. Its severity can vary enormously. And because many of the people it affects are young and otherwise healthy, there can be a dangerous assumption that serious heart disease simply isn't something they need to worry about.
But hearts don't care how old you are.
A young heart can become inflamed.
A healthy-looking person can become critically ill.
A family can lose someone they never imagined they could lose.
Behind every statistic is a person.
A son or daughter.
A brother or sister.
A partner.
A friend.
A parent.
Someone who had plans for next week, next year and the rest of their life.
Those are the lives we are fighting to protect.
That's where Myocarditis UK comes in
Myocarditis UK is dedicated to raising funds for research that can change this story.
We need better ways to identify myocarditis. We need better understanding of the disease. We need better treatments. And we need to make sure that the knowledge gained through research ultimately translates into lives saved.
Research takes time, expertise and — critically — funding.
That is why our London Marathon runners are so important.
They aren't simply running 26.2 miles.
They are turning every training session, every early morning, every aching muscle and every mile of the London Marathon into an opportunity to fund research and raise awareness.
They are running for the person who doesn't yet know what is happening to their heart.
They are running for the family who never got the answers they needed.
They are running for the young person who survived and now needs better treatment.
And they are running for the families who have lost someone they loved.
Your donation can be part of that journey
You don't have to run a marathon to make a difference.
You don't have to be a scientist.
You don't have to be a doctor.
You simply have to care enough to help.
A donation to our runners is a vote for research. It is a vote for better diagnosis. It is a vote for better treatment. It is a vote for giving young people with myocarditis a better chance of surviving — and living the lives they deserve.
Every donation, large or small, helps build momentum.
£10.
£25.
£50.
£100.
Whatever you can give, your support tells our runners that they aren't running alone.
And it tells everyone affected by myocarditis that their lives matter.
Imagine a different future
Imagine a young person experiencing symptoms and being diagnosed quickly because doctors have better tools.
Imagine a family being told that effective treatment is available.
Imagine a world where myocarditis isn't a silent threat that can steal a young life without warning.
Imagine fewer empty chairs at family dinner tables.
Imagine more birthdays.
More graduations.
More weddings.
More ordinary days — which, when someone has been lost, become the most precious things imaginable.
That is the future we want to help create.
And research is how we get there.
Run with us
When our runners cross the finish line in London in 2027, they will have achieved something extraordinary.
But the finish line isn't really the end.
Every pound they raise can help take research one step further.
Every person who sponsors them becomes part of that effort.
Every share, every conversation and every donation helps bring myocarditis out of the shadows.
So if you know someone running for Myocarditis UK, please consider sponsoring them and even If you don't know a runner personally, support the cause anyway, because somewhere in the UK, there is a young adult whose heart is in danger. Somewhere there is a family hoping for answers. Somewhere there is a researcher working towards a breakthrough. And somewhere there is a future patient who could benefit from the research we fund today.
Please help us make sure that person has a future.
Support our London Marathon runners.
Support myocarditis research.
Help us save hearts — and the lives behind them.
Because 26.2 miles can do more than cross London.
Together, they can help change the future of myocarditis.
