Story
This year marks 250 years since the words ‘Morecambe Bay’ appeared on a map!* To mark the occasion, schools around the Bay are celebrating a special Morecambe Bay Day.
By taking part, schools are helping to raise money for two local charities Morecambe Bay Partnership and Bay Search and Rescue who help people, nature & heritage around Morecambe Bay.
How your money will help the Bay
A rescue team staffed by a dedicated team of volunteers and funded almost entirely from public donations, BSAR operate special all-terrain vehicles to help the emergency services rescue people, animals and vehicles from quicksand, snow and floods. Donations help keep our unique service running from helping us buy vital equipment, to covering fuel and operating costs
£450 could buy a Flood Rescue dry-suit for a team member. £150 could buy a waterproof jacket. £15 could pay for a new pair of neoprene gloves for a volunteer
Morecambe Bay is 308 km2 like no other, and a place that takes your breath away. We are the Bay's coastal champions, working with communities to keeping Morecambe Bay special and ensure people, nature and heritage here can thrive, now and in he future. Here’s how your donations help us:
• The Bay is one of the UK’s most important biodiversity hotspots, but it needs help to survive– donations help us protect the internationally important birds and wildlife that call the Bay home.
• Tackling litter pollution – supporting our communities to clean up our coast and countryside.
• Access for all - improving access to the countryside for people living with disabilities or facing barriers.
• Creating vital outdoor experiences for disadvantaged young people – many of whom never experience the coast and countryside.
• Bringing health and wellbeing programmes to the Bay’s communities through cycling, walking and community volunteering.
• Supporting volunteers to care for & celebrate the Bay’s precious heritage.
£50 could pay for a school's workshop connecting young people to Morecambe Bay. £25 could support mobility scooter hire to help someone less mobile enjoy the coast. £10 could buy a pair of litter pickers for our beach care volunteers
Fancy a target? How about £250 for 250 years of Morecambe Bay!
Donations from Morecambe Bay Day will be shared equally between Morecambe Bay Partnership and Bay Search and Rescue.
