Story
Durham Cathedral and Durham Miners Association are partnering for a special fundraising campaign, culminating in the Cathedral's special evensong in celebration of 150 years of the Durham Miners Association on 20th November 2019. The Lights of the North Appeal offers the opportunity to celebrate the people and communities of the Durham Coalfield, past and present.
By making a suggested donation of £15, or an amount of your choice, donors will be invited to the special service on 20th November. Donors will be able to nominate a person, colliery, lodge or community to be celebrated or remembered through having a candle lit in the cathedral at the service, and the name included in a special commemorative programme.
PLEASE BE ADVISED in order to have a person, colliery, lodge or community commemorated, leave their name in a message along with your donation when prompted to do so. Additionally, your INVITATION TO THE SERVICE will be included in the thank you/receipt email you receive from JustGiving when you have made your donation. Therefore, please complete your email address after you have entered your payment details to make sure you receive the invitation. If our invitation does not show as part of the receipt and you would like to attend the service and/or receive your commemorative programme in the post, please contact sharon.munro@durhamcathedral.co.uk
The closing date for the appeal is 10 November 2019.
Donations will be collected by Durham Cathedral and split equally between Durham Cathedral and Durham Miners Association. Proceeds from the campaign will be used to enable both organisations to continue to support our local communities and share our mining heritage.
