Read Mark Rooke's story below, after his wife Jenny was cared for by Saint Catherine's in 2019.
Hello,
My name is Mark and in February 2019 I lost my wonderful wife Jenny, who had been battling cancer.
Jenny had fought breast cancer 11 years before, and when she became poorly again it was such a shock to us all as a family. Jenny had always been very active and we loved running our family farm together.
Living near Helmsley, it was difficult for us to get home care, so we were blessed when Jenny was given a bed at Saint Catherines. I would stay for two nights and two days, then our daughter Helen would do the same. Thats how we did it all the way through.
We couldnt have wished for anything more. Jenny slept a lot and was very peaceful, but whenever she woke up I had my lovely Jenny back.
We got to know the nurses and some of them have been out to visit us at the farm. We have such a strong connection to the staff they were just wonderful. I just think unless youve had an experience like this as a family, its hard to realise the impact Saint Catherines has on patients and their loved ones.
Im honoured to be a part of Saint Catherines and to be able to help spread the word. I feel its important to help as much as we can. I dont know what wed have done without Saint Catherines and Im forever grateful for the precious time they gave us with Jenny.
We have been blessed with kindness, love and care from Saint Catherines. By supporting the Light up a Life Appeal, you are helping to ensure this specialist, outstanding care is available to future patients and their families too.
Thank you
Mark
