Christmas, for so many of us, is a wonderful time of year. A time for family. A time for coming together to celebrate. A time for age-old traditions and making memories to last a lifetime. A time when children are so full of joy, belief and excitement, its palpable.

There are few things more magical than seeing Christmas through the eyes of children. Their anticipation of what Father Christmas might bring, early morning whispers of has he been?, squeals of delight as they marvel at the lights, the smells and the sounds and little gasps of amazement as they revel in the magic of it all surrounded by their loved ones.

However, when a child has a condition like cerebral palsy, the world can be a very different place and Christmas can be a difficult, isolating and lonely time.

Cerebral palsy is a neurological condition in which damage to the brain affects the way children move, communicate and make sense of the world around them. It robs children of their independence, their freedom of movement and their ability to talk.

Imagine Christmas for a child who cant speak, who cant ask for what they need or tell someone how they are feeling. Imagine Christmas for a child who isnt even able to lift their head to look up and see the world around them.

Not being able to talk or make themselves understood, can leave these children feeling angry, alone and incapable of meeting some of their basic human needs.
