Glasgow The Caring City has launched a fundraising appeal with an initial target of £10,000 to allow the charity to provide further support via local partners in what it describes as a dynamic and changing conflict situation.
Ross Galbraith, Glasgow The Caring Citys crisis resilience manager, said: This is a fast-moving and ever-changing international crisis, which means our experience of providing professional assistance over the past 20 years becomes invaluable, allowing us to provide exactly what is needed.
Today is phase one, with that initial, requested aid now on its way to the Polish border with Ukraine. We have worked with partners in the refugee corridor there to ensure the aid that is needed now is what they receive.
However tomorrows needs will be different from todays and we must continue to react to those needs. Thats why were launching our Ukraine aid fundraising appeal, which will allow us to procure aid locally and deliver exactly what is needed, when it is needed. Poland and Germany have a very well-developed supply chain which means we can purchase and deliver locally with established nationally recognised partners such as Red Cross.
If the people of Glasgow and Scotland wish to help now, the most helpful thing they can do is donate funds. If we have access to funds we can procure goods locally and work with established partners there to make sure we continue to provide what is needed in a changing situation.
Glasgow The Caring City was founded in 1999 to help vulnerable people in crisis in Scotland and internationally. As well as individual donations, it will welcome corporate support and strategic partnerships organisations can get in touch by info@glasgowthecaringcity.com.com
