Story
What is Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)?
In short, FND is a condition that arises from a problem with how the brain and nervous system sends and receives signals, rather than an identifiable disease process. FND encompasses a diverse range of neurological symptoms including limb weakness, paralysis, seizures, gait issues, spasms, twitching, sensory issues and more. Advancement in research into FND has led to it being now identified as a 'brain network disorder'.
How common is FND?
The exact prevalence of FND is unknown, however research suggests around 50-100,000 people (men, women and children) are living with FND in the UK.
