Story
The Challenge
2022 studies have identified that 38% of people living in Bristol are unsatisfied with their lives, which is a significant increase from 25% in 2019. However, when these statistics are focused into the 10% most deprived locations in Bristol, the numbers increase dramatically to show a 54% rate of dissatisfaction with life.
The rates of mental health, specifically depression and anxiety, are also seen to be increasing substantially, with a rise in depression cases to 13.5% by 2021, which is now higher than the national average. The city of Bristol is reaching all-time highs in cases of anxiety, stress, depression, and loneliness, and record lows in terms of wellbeing, mental health, and sense of purpose, and there is a severe lack of support for those who are struggling.
About Bristol Chaplaincy
Bristol Chaplaincy takes the time to talk to individuals and hear their unique situations. We aim to listen, to help them find hope, and even provide a solution to the challenge, issue or change that they might be facing.
We are all human and it's natural to sometimes feel the weight of life. It's also natural to want to tlak to someone, so our chaplains provide a safe environment and a compassionate ear where people can discuss anything. Whatever life brings, whether in work or personal life, we are here to support and help people move forward.

Fundraising
Bristol Chaplaincy is currently resourced by a team of volunteers. We are launching this fundraising campaign to enable us to expand and grow the support that we offer throughout Bristol City Centre and beyond. Our resources are limited and this fundraising campaign will enable us to make a huge difference in many more peoples lives.
2024 Bristol Harbour Festival
Throughout the 2024 Bristol Harbour Festival we will be providing a wellbeing and quiet space on board the “Upper Reaches – wide beam barge”, where those people who become overwhelmed with the busyness of the festival can take some time out in a safe, calm and relaxing space. Our chaplains will be available to welcome, listen and provide support if needed.
We will also be exhibiting photographs entered into a photography competition aimed at depicting “Life around the harbourside” on board the barge.
