Story
Hello, thank you for joining us in the Wilmslow Running Festival, together we can help run hygiene poverty into the ground.
We are Bare Necessities Toiletry Bank, just like a food bank but only for toiletries and hygiene stuff. We help local people keep clean when they can’t afford the everyday essentials we all take for granted; it’s things like tooth paste, shampoo, deodorant and shower gel. Hygiene poverty is really shaming & humiliating, it makes everyday life an ordeal.
We’re not ok with that, we say we’re here because no-one should have to choose between eating and keeping clean. Together we make a difference …
‘Being able to include toiletries supports people in their mental health and wellbeing.’ - Silk Life food bank
“You have no idea how that bag changed my life,” Survivor of domestic violence -Manchester Women’s Aid
‘Hi Miss I just wanted to e mail to say thank you for giving xxx a bag full of such lovely toiletries it’s stuff that costs so much and when you’re having to budget for food and heating it helps massively to have this’ -school
‘Teenage bags are always a massive hit over here.’ Bideford Community Centre
“Many of the young people who access our services regularly state how just because they are sleeping rough, it doesn’t mean they don’t take pride in their appearance and hygiene. A simple hairbrush does wonders for a person’s pride and confidence in the most difficult times in their lives.” Centrepoint
‘It is lovely to know that there are people out there putting together packs like this to send to us, it makes a very big difference for our day to day lives after coming off the streets.’ Male Hostel Emerging Futures
