Story
At Edensor Care Centre, Diagrama's home for elderly nursing and dementia care in Clacton-on-Sea, we believe there is nothing more important than our residents and we strive to ensure they have a fulfilling life.
With close proximity to the beach, it's an ideal place for those who love the seaside, however many of our residents are unable to wholly enjoy their surroundings as some are permanent wheelchair users and this makes it impossible for them to go on the sand and down to the waters edge.
As part of our commitment to the Montessori approach to dementia and aged care, we would love to change that, so that residents can once again feel the sand between their toes and with your help we can!
The idea came about when one of our residents, Simon Keyes, pictured above, who was with us for end of life care, wanted to be able to go onto the beach in his final days. Sadly, due to Simon's wheelchair this was not possible and has proved heartbreaking for all involved. The realisation that we have many more people who have been prevented from enjoying the beach has spurred us on to achieve this wish so that Simon can leave a lasting legacy at Edensor.
With your support, we want to raise £5000 to buy two beach wheelchairs, for use by our residents as soon as it's safe to do so. The wheelchairs will allow full use of the beach and means that after many months of complete lockdown for some, they will be able to get out and enjoy life again.
Edensor is part of the Diagrama Foundation, a charity which uses a person centred approach and strives to find innovative solutions to the challenges faced by those we support. We believe in integrating vulnerable people into communities in whatever way we can. What better way than enabling our residents at Edensor to experience the beach and all the enjoyment it brings!
Your support is much appreciated, thank you!
