Story

There are triathlons and there are triathlons.

And this was a MEGA triathlon!!

On Friday 3rd September 2021 Wildlife Trust colleagues Jake and Gareth completed their challenge to paddle, cycle and run more than 90km on their journey to Centre of the Earth, our Environmental Education Centre.

Their journey, which took over 12 hours, started in Bridgnorth, kayaking to Stourport, cycling to Wolverhampton then running to Birmingham where the team cheered them over the finish line with bubbly and a burger!

Senior Conservation Officer Jake Williams and Head of Engagement and Education Gareth Morgan have devoted their careers to inspiring people to connect with and learn about nature. But they took their devotion one step further with an epic physical fundraising challenge! They have set a £3,000 target so please sponsor them to support nature's recovery across Birmingham and the Black Country.

Jake and Gareth are keen cyclists; they regularly cycle to the office to keep fit and also to play their part in tackling climate change. As the skipper of our recycled plastic punt The Poly Roger, Jake has taken up kayaking in in recent years. Gareth loves walking and particularly enjoys the challenge of a mountain hike.

But even for these fitness fanatics this mega triathlon was a challenge. They trained for months and all your support motivated them through the big day.

Please make a donation to help them reach their £3,000 target and share your thoughts on their epic triathlon success our social media channels using #TriathlonForNature
