Story
Thank you to everybody who has assisted in getting this land acquisition across the line enabling Penny Brohn UK to further enhance the beauty, tranquility, and restorative value of our unique environment. This addition to our existing green space brings with it an abundance of extra views across open rolling hills towards the historic grade 2 listed Leigh Court, glimpses of the many species of wildlife whose habitat includes the extensive Ham Green Lake, and opportunities for horticulture to enjoy further adding to our reputation of keeping one of the UKs best therapeutic gardens.
Land description: The land, comprising about 6 acres in total, was originally part of the historic Ham Green House estate and then part of Ham Green Hospital grounds. From a heritage perspective therefore, the land would be coming home. It is low grade agricultural land (currently ungrazed) within the green belt. The lake is an ideal backdrop to the field, and the fishing community seek the same attributes of peace and tranquility, compatible with Penny Brohn UK's aims.
However, to complete the acquisition, the charity needs to find a further £17,000 and has launched a Just Giving appeal locally to encourage people to financially assist with making the purchase happen.
The acquisition will double the charitys current footprint and enable it to provide an even greater experience for its cancer clients.
