Story

Highland and Islands Blood Bikes (HAIBB) are proud to announce a landmark Charity event taking place between Thursday 2nd and Saturday 4th June 2022. Two of our Volunteer riders are riding two of our liveried Blood Bikes and meeting up with representatives from each of the other blood bike groups across the United Kingdom, Northern and Southern Ireland. Our riders will also be attempting to set a new Guinness World Record of the UK's longest Blood Bike relay.

The relay item will be a Charter known as the "Highland Hand of Friendship" and will commemorate the fine work done by all the blood bike groups for the NHS at no charge to the taxpayer throughout Covid-19 pandemic. HAIBB only commenced service at the time of the first lockdown, so this is our "normal".

The Charter will be signed by a member of each group and once the Charter has been returned to HAIBB, we will forward a completed signed copy to each group in time for the World Record to hopefully be ratified. Our riders will meet representatives from other groups on route at hospitals near to motorways and trunk roads as the normal practice of doing "handovers" takes place typically at these points

Day 1: Thomas and Mark leave 04:00 from Raigmore Hospital Inverness and head south to meet up with groups until the final meeting in Bedfordshire, it is anticipated to meet multiple groups at the minimum amount of stops. The group's are invited to ride along to the next destination and hopefully create quite a spectacle for members of the public which should raise interest as well as sponsorship.

Day 2: Our riders meeting at Colchester Kawasaki at 08.30. The proprietor has offered to make breakfast for any riders coming to see us off!. Heading around the south of England, meeting up with other groups as far as Exeter and hopefully groups from Devon and Cornwall will pop along, before heading to Bristol for the night.

Day 3: Our intrepid riders head north on M5, M6 and The North. If luck is with us, meet with riders from Ireland. Finally back to Raigmore. Fuel up, wash the bikes and head for their own beds.

The riders progress can be monitored via our Facebook page during the event. HAIBB welcome private and Corporate sponsorship and can advertise on the motorcycles for any generous companies.

Good Luck to Thomas and Mark!
