Story
The rising cost-of-living crisis means the Healthcare Workers' Foundation is not able to raise enough money to support everyone who needs us right now. At the same time, it's having a real impact on healthcare workers, with some hospitals even setting up foodbanks for their staff. Thousands of healthcare workers are leaving jobs they love, to get better paid work elsewhere. Those who remain in healthcare are already overworked and exhausted, with many now worrying about household finances too. They're having to make daily choices on whether they can turn on the heating or go without food.
At the Healthcare Workers' Foundation we've set up our Hardship Fund, offering grants to healthcare workers struggling financially. We knew there was a need for these grants, but we had no idea just how much. We have been inundated with applications, along with requests for support for our other services. As winter continues and the impact of the cost-of-living crisis worsens, we're receiving more applications every week and can't help everyone who needs us.
We've seen a 92% increase in applications in just one month, and we don't have enough funding to help everyone who needs us. In fact, we've had to pause some of our services due to lack of funds.
This increase confirms what we already know: there are a great number of healthcare workers who are struggling right now. We know it's a lot to ask especially at this time of year - but if you can spare anything, please think about contributing to our appeal today to ensure we can keep supporting those who need us this winter.
I work on a really busy stroke ward and absolutely love my job. I have been struggling for some time now. Juggling work and supporting my three children on a low wage, and the cost of living is crippling me financially as energy rises as well. I was so worried about Christmas - I had already told my children this was a tight Christmas this year and this had broken my heart. This message this morning has changed all that. I can buy a really good (food) shop now and get my children some clothes (which are) much needed. I can not thank Healthcare Workers' Foundation enough. These are tears of joy this morning. Thank you millions.
Working together, we can help those healthcare workers most in need. If 40 people donate £25, that could pay someone's rent arrears, giving a family a fresh start, free of debt.
In addition to our financial support, we provide staff room refurbishments, bereaved family support and counselling. Your donation will be used wherever it is needed most to support healthcare workers around the UK this winter and all year round.
