Story
Benson must have been in excruciating pain. We will never know what happened to him, just that he was found with a broken front leg, his fur matted and incredibly underweight. Luckily he was found by a kind person who rushed him to the local vets.
That's when we were called as no owner could be found. We transferred him to the Rosemary Lodge veterinary hospital for initial treatment and assessment of his injuries.
Benson was given pain medication to make him more comfortable, and his leg was x-rayed to see if it could be saved. Benson had broken both bones in his right foreleg, but with a delicate operation we hope his leg can be saved.
Benson was fortunate to have been brought into our care when he was and to receive the treatment he desperately needed so quickly, but we need to raise the funds to cover his medical treatment and his recovery. So far Benson's veterinary care has cost £2,034. Will you help a young dog's rehabilitation? Please donate today towards his medical care.
During his operation, a plate was inserted to hold his bones in place and allow them to heal. Benson now needs 6 weeks' bed rest, with exercise restricted to short walks to go to the toilet, with no steps or jumping around at all.
Being a young lurcher at 11 months old, this is hard for Benson to understand. His carers have been working on keeping him entertained during his rest. Benson has puzzles feeders and spends time sitting with different carers in his kennel or on the grass outside, so he's making lots of friends!
After what Benson has been through he is, unsurprisingly, nervous of hands, so our behavioural team have been working on gentle touch training so he gains confidence.
Benson is recovering well from his operation and he has the sweetest personality shining through. We will find out after 6 weeks' bed rest whether his leg has healed well or if he needs any further treatment.
Please donate what you can towards his treatment today and share his story. It is vital we reach as many people as possible, to try and raise the funds for his operation. We'll keep you updated on our social media, with photo updates on Benson's progress (Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @bathcdh), thank you in advance for your support!
Update 5th August - Benson had his X-ray check up, following his 6 weeks bed rest & it was great news! His vets are pleased with his implant and the healing of both his bones, so we are able to increase his exercise gradually.
Being young, even though Benson is on short walks he tries to run, and he also plays in his kennel he is just a frustrated young dog in lockdown! Unfortunately, his leg started swelling so he went off to the vet hospital for more x-rays. Thankfully they showed everything is OK internally. To aid his recovery we have installed rubber matting in his kennel to stop any slips when he is unsupervised.
(If we raise any additional funds over target, this will go towards life-saving veterinary treatment for other cats and dogs arriving in our care.)
