Story
As we celebrate the 22nd anniversary of the opening of The Childrens Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM), running as a Champion for CHAM and supporting our athletes, medical teams, and staff is more significant than ever.
This year we are excited to partner with the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by New York Yankees First Baseman Anthony Rizzo, to support our runners with the goal of raising funds for children with cancer.
Throughout our history, CHAM teams have shared an unwavering commitment to providing children with every opportunity to realize their full potential regardless of circumstance or ability to pay. Our dynamic and diverse Bronx community faces some of the most difficult and rampant health challenges in the country. As the boroughs largest health system, we see ourselves as an engine for social good, operating under the ethos that healthcare access should be equitable. We are proud to serve as a model for urban healthcare systems nationwide.
Money raised by Champion for CHAM marathon runners will benefit CHAMs Quality in Life Team (QUILT). These palliative care experts help families navigate medical decisions and offer support as they face the uncertainty of life-threatening and fatal illnesses.
“Anthony Rizzo’s story is a great inspiration for our children at CHAM. We are so fortunate to have such a generous and gracious champion, both on and off the baseball field, just a few subway stops from the hospital,” said Michael D. Cabana, MD, MPH, Physician-in-Chief at CHAM and Professor and Michael I. Cohen, MD University Chair of Pediatrics at Montefiore Einstein.
Thank you for caring for those in need. We look forward to cheering on our Champions for CHAM!
