British 10k London-The Migraine Trust

British 10k London Run 2007 · 1 July 2007 ·
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
I am running the British 10k London with my Fiancé Matt to raise money for The Migraine Trust.
All too often people dismiss migraines as a serious condition and sufferers tend to get little sympathy. What people sometimes fail to understand is that Migraines are an extremely debilitating condition that affects not only the sufferer but those close to them also.
No migraine sufferer is alike. Scientists have been doing research into what causes migraine for decades. The understanding of migraine has improved greatly in the last decade, although there is still a great deal to learn. Migraine is, essentially, a brain problem. It involves a disorder of how 'sensory information', such as pain, light or sound, is dealt with by the brain.
I am running because my Fiancé suffers greatly with severe sustained migraines that afflict him for weeks or months at a time. The Migraine Trust supports Migraine sufferers by helping them to identify their triggers and how to cope with attacks.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Migraine Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.

Training Diary
08/01/2007
So it’s the New Year and time to get down to some hard, solid training-ok maybe just training! It dawned on me this morning that ‘race day’ is less than 6 months away now or approximately 173 days! Damn.
While I used to do quite a bit of exercise this has faded into, well, not an awful lot lately so I have devised a training schedule so that Matt and I will be ready and raring to go and achieve our goal of finishing in under an hour!
While 173 days may sound quite a lot there has to be allowances for days when we can’t/won’t train for obviously very legitimate reasons such as illness, work commitments, pure laziness…. So tonight’s the night we get moving!
I’ll update you on how we fared, whether Matt survived and if he hates me yet! And remember guys please keep reminding everyone you know abotu our page and the event! And of course that sponsorship money coming to help us reach our target and raise awareness!
Over and out.

So Matt and I went for a run Sunday afternoon. It was very cold and we didn't stay out too long! You can expect to see a picture of us training very shortly as our neighbour was kind enough to take it before we set off...yes of course BEFORE we set off so that we would still have some dignity intact when it appears in the next issue of The Migraine Trust's magazine along with a little bit I wrote about why we got involved. I'll hopefully be ale to show some of you our claim to fame once I have a copy!
If anyone has any training tips feel free to disclose them!

Ok so it's been a while since my last update and the training is still going slowly but surely!
I just wanted to say thank you to all who have pledged sponsorship so far and everyone who has been supportive given how inexperienced Matt and I are at running and how important this issue is to us.
It's also occured me that the 1st July is generally very hot so it should be a lovely day for all our cheerleaders to enjoy the race-please supply own outfit and pom poms!
Our claim to fame arrived on our doorstep on Saturday-not only are we featured inside this months Migraine Trust magazine but we also made the front cover which we are happy to sign with a personal message. If you do decide to sell these as rare and collectable items on ebay please make sure all profits are donated to The Migraine Trust :o)!
On a few final notes...The Migaraine Trust still has a few spaces for the British 10k London so if anyone fancies the challenge let me know and I'll tell you who you need to speak to to get registered! Also please forward our page to everyone you know who! Come on guys!

It's ok everyone the panic is over! I am back with another update for you so do not fret!
Training is plodding along nicely so we are well on our way to being ready and with only 8 weeks to go thats a very reassuring thing to know!
We also had a treadmill delivered last week which makes training much more pleasurable as we can watch a bit of trashy tv in the process..um by that I mean intellectually challenging documentaries of course...hmmm.
My total is creeping upwards and the support from those of you who have already sponsored me is fantastic! I really do appreciate it as do the Migraine Trust and the people they help and support.
So help me keep the money coming but letting people know and forwarding my email as we are aiming to increase awareness of the Migraine trust and the condition itself as well as raising as much as possible!

Less than 3 whole days until D-day!!! Ok breathe...relax... you'll be fine...
It's the final countdown (dododo dododododo) and we need all hands...ok wallets on deck for the final push before we embark on our sightseeing journey round London's monuments!
Dig deep and I'll be back on Monday with an update on how we did!

We did it-woohoo!
After a very early start (about 6.15am) Matt and myself ,along with another friend also running, made our way to London to meet the rest of the Migraine Trust team.
The race itself was great fun and it was a great experience seeing 20,000 runners making their way round London's monuments with the vast majority running for charity.
We did it in good time and really enjoyed ourselves-ready for our next challenge!
A really big thank you for everyone who has donated/supported us and also to my Mum and Dad who were there waving a banner to cheer us on near the finishing line!
If you haven't had the chance to sponsor us yet please do! Anything you can spare is a real help especially as reclaimed Gift Aid adds that little more for nothing!
Thanks again!! xxx
