Dear All:
I did it!!! Hurray! 26.2 miles under my belt and absolutely no inclination to do it again!! It was a great night with an incredible atmosphere and SO many people! I walked with 7 fantastic people from my local surgery - they went as the "7 Belles" dressed in scrubs and blue bras with blue flashing lights on their hats! They looked fab and were the nicest, funniest people and so kind to let me join them on this amazing night. The 8 of us travelled up and back and walked together the whole way and they spurred me on in my darkest hours!
Everyone keeps asking me how it was and what the most difficult part was and I have to admit that it was my greediness that let me down....... I felt I just HAD to eat the freebie pasta meal before the start (as well as a banana and a muesli bar) and walked the whole marathon feeling horrendous!!! I am very embarrassed to say that I was sick twice and spent 7 hours vowing that I would never eat anything ever ever again - I couldn't even handle eating a polo and had to spit it out! Suffice to say that I felt so sick that I didn't even notice my blisters and the walk just sped by. I felt fine as soon as I stopped and thoroughly enjoyed my croissant and cuppa at Fleet Services on the way home. You'll be relieved to know that I can eat again and being Otilie's 5th birthday today I have managed to eat several fairy cakes and lots of crisps - phew! So although I didn't manage to complete the walk to my training pace I had an incredible if surreal night and am very proud of you all for helping me surpass my fundraising target. (And if you've promised to sponsor me and haven't then you've got 3 months to do it!)
The weather in London was brilliant - a clear night and a beautiful sunny morning as we crossed the finish line. The crowds, volunteers and fellow 'mooners' were amazing and the whole event was incredibly well organised - I would recommend it to anyone. The costumes from some of the teams were very clever and I am ashamed to say that I made mine the night before but Otilie clearly liked it as she took it in to 'show and tell' today and told everyone that I only wore that and my knickers! ( I didn't by the way).
So, lastly and most importantly, thank you to all of you - my sponsors.
Thank you so much.
With lots and lots of love
Briony xxxx
