Story
Thanks for visiting our fundraising page. As you may/may not know, Donna and Brett are visiting Cambodia from 5th to 20th February 2011 to help support a building project which is making a difference and improving the life of some of the most deprived people on earth.
As part of a team with Mission Direct supporting the Fellowship of Hope Church in Cambodia.
Our project will be to build an HIV centre for Cambodia’s slum children who have inherited the HIV virus through no fault of their own. The centre will feature three classrooms and a clinic to offer the children food, medication and an education.
In 2009 Brett visited Cambodia and worked with Mission Direct to make a difference. In 2009 the team extended the living accommodation for 18 families.
Donna has been a committed Christian for 10years with a passion for serving. It's now time to step up to new challenges and get those lovely nails dirty!
Also as part of the mission we will also help children at risk, those living in slums or on the city dumps. We will provide medical care, food and health education. We will also teach English where we can provide great assistance in conversation classes, teaching English as spoken by an English person!
For Donna this is a new and very real challenge that has been truly placed upon her heart, please send her to Cambodia!
Brett will be celebrating his 40th Birthday in Cambodia, so instead of buying him a beer or a gift, please be generous and make a donation.
Its been put on our hearts to make a difference help give children like this a future. Video: Just on story of one of 1000s of children
Please help.
More about Cambodia and the children living there:
In a country struggling to rebuild after years of war and strife, the people of Cambodia are working hard to create a future for their families. Nearly half of all Cambodian children are malnourished, and one in eight dies before their fifth birthday, largely due to preventable causes.
Cambodia has a population of over 13.5 million. But life expectancy is under 60 years, and the average age is under 20.
In the passing years foreign aid from all over the world have been poured in to help Cambodia recover. Unfortunately, Cambodia is riddled with corruption and little of that money is filtering through to the people who need it the most, the desperately poor. The support of NGOs such as the work provided by Mission Direct is essential.
Near 34% of all Cambodians are surviving on less than a dollar a day. They have no choice but to send their children to work as beggars, maids, can collectors and far worse, for as little as 25 cents a day. Child labour is common in Cambodia and the conditions are horrific.
Many families have no access to health care and have been deprived from even the most basic knowledge or education. People here have little hope for improvement in the future. They are trapped in a system of exploitation and structural corruption. The only future hope lay helping to create a future with the next generation.
Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia, has 564 slum areas housing 300,000 people, one quarter of the city's population.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us:
Mission Direct gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Many thanks for your support.
