Story
Hi there!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and thank you for all your wonderfully generous donations thus far- I have now made it over the £2000 target with cheques as well as this webpage- fantastic! It is thanks to you that Raleigh has this contribution.
The adventure: I am going to Borneo on 31st January 2010 to undertake a 10-week Raleigh expedition (finishing 11th April 2010). I am so excited to have the opportunity to make a real difference and improve lives in a developing country. The expedition will involve:
-a 3-week community project (for example building a kindergarten or sustainable water-pump system)
-a 3-week environmental project (for example helping in the sun bear sanctuary or with rhinos)
-a 3-week adventure project (diving course and jungle-trek).
If you would like to write me a letter whilst I am out in Borneo (please, as it is only contact with outside world!)-
Absolutely no parcels allowed due to the cost of customs for the charity. Mail must be sent at least 3 weeks before the end of the expedition (so 3 weeks before april 11th).

The charity: To be allowed to go and undertake vital work in remote communitites in Borneo, I have to raise £2000 for the Raleigh charity.
This fundraising target is the minimum donation required for me to participate in an Overseas Programme, but is not linked directly to the costs of my participation. Every penny you donate goes straight to Raleigh and contributes to the costs of the Raleigh organisation including their work with socially excluded and ‘at risk’ young people. Adding Gift Aid can really help too. You can find out more information here: http://www.raleighinternational.org/
Raleigh has been working in Malaysia for 13 years and continues to improve the infrastructure of Reserves and National Parks there as well as helping remote communities by building much needed community centres and schools. Raleigh really works hard to ensure that all of its projects are worthwhile, appropriate and sustainable by working with local partnership organisations.
Please dig deep and donate now. I know £2000 seems like a lot, but remember every little helps!
What you get in return: Updates on my project progress via the Raleigh webpage and blog throughout the expedition period, a full low-down on my experiences afterwards and the feel good-factor that you are donating to a worthy cause. I will be doing things like making brownies, holding pub quizzes and other events to raise the extra money so keep your eyes pealed!
