Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.
My name is Bob Carr and I live in Basingstoke, UK. At the beginning of May 2011, I embarked on the most demanding task I’ve ever set myself – walking the 950miles (1,500 km) from Santander in the north of Spain to Tarifa (near Algeciras), the most southerly point of the Iberian peninsular, in order to raise funds for Cancer Research in the UK and Spain. Well, I'm happy to say that I completed it. The walk took me through some of the most far-flung regions of Spain and lasted a little over 11weeks. It was a daunting challenge - both physically and mentally - but one that I enjoyed enormously.
However the walk wasn't about me at all – it was about raising funds for what I believe is a very worthy cause. Everyone who’s reading this will know someone – a relative, a close friend, a neighbour or perhaps a work colleague – who has been affected by cancer. Although cancer survival rates have doubled in the last 40 years there’s no room for complacency. That’s because every TWO minutes someone is diagnosed with Cancer. Just think about that – every TWO minutes! With your help – with your donation – we can keep making crucial progress to ensure that more people beat cancer. So please, please give as much as you can . Knowing that you have given generously will help me to get nearer that target of £5,000 which at the moment seems an awful long way away.
If you would like to know more about the walk then take a look at http://www.walkwithmethroughspain.co.uk . You can find out exactly where I've been to and how I got there. There's literally hundreds of photos of some of the beautiful and often remote places that I passed through. (01May2012 - I have now closed down this site, but if you want to know more about my walk, then please feel free to email me on bob.carr@50bc.co.uk )
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. So please dig deep into your pockets and give now.
Unfortunately, because CNIO (Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncologicas) is not a registered British charity it is impossible to set up a Just Giving page for them here in the UK. However, I have set up two bank accounts - one in the UK and one in Spain - where you can donate to CNIO. The details of these two accounts are on http://www.walkwithmethroughspain.co.uk . Having received a tremendous amount of support and encouragement from CNIO, I am committed to raising funds for them as well; especially so since I was heavily reliant on Spanish hospitality during my 3 months in Spain.
Thank you,
Bob
