Story
Bitchy & Sleazy finished the race in around 2.31 - loads faster than we thought. Thank you very much to all our wonderful supporters - we enjoyed it so much we're going to do it again next year! Unfortunately Roisin and Kiki had to pull out earlier this week with injury/illness respectively - we wish them both a speedy recovery and are looking forward to skating with them in the near future.
Congratulations also go to friend of the Dames - Tallulah Trash - for an awe-inspiring time of 2.15.
Gooooo Dames!!!!
PS - it's not to late to sponsor us, or to come play Roller Derby! www.blitzdames.com
Four skaters from the Birmingham Blitz Dames Roller Derby team will
be leaving their wheels at home and running 13.1 miles on Sunday 11th
October to raise money for the Birmingham Women's Hospital.
Training
Director Sleazy Rider, hard hitter Bitchy the Killer and star jammers
Roisin Roulette and Kiki Kasplat decided just two weeks ago to step out
and raise money for such an important local charity.
Please
come and support us on the day, we will be easily recognisable running
together in our bouting kit (minus pads and skates). Also, look out for
many of our supporters and team mates in the crowd and come ask us what
Roller Derby is all about!
The Birmingham Blitz
Dames are
Birmingham's original all female, flat track competitive
roller derby league and are currently ranked second in Europe. We are a
diverse group of women from a variety of backgrounds, ages and
ethnicities. Our members work or study in industries such as banking,
bartending, teaching, law, therapy and art to name just a few. Although
some of our girls are tattooed punks, the only requirement for skating
with the league is that members must be over 18 and enthusiastic. We
are literally training our members from the ground up, some having
never skated before at all. We practice three times a week to take all
members through their Basic Skills training and beyond, to prepare for
competition. And we're not just training the women who skate on our
teams, but we are also giving full training to our male and female
referees and announcers.
Open practices run on
the first Saturday of every month from 9.30am at Stockland Green Sports
Centre. Please check out www.blitzdames.com for more details.
