Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The Bike2Give team is a group of guys that want to give something back to society. We all have different motivations for making this epic journey but needless to say, we are all doing it for the right reasons. We plan to ride approximately 1,000 kilometres from Milton Keynes, England to a small village in Southwest France called Montignac le Coq. The idea came from our team leader, Peter Borner who just happens to live in Milton Keynes and have a second home in Montignac le Coq. This ride was originally called the “Home to Home” challenge.

As we each thought more about our motivations for doing the ride we decided the Bike2Give better describes our mission. We are going to put our bodies on the line and cycle 1,000 kilometres in approximately one week in order to raise a considerable sum for two extremely deserving charities Rotary and Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Rotary Club of Towcester have kindly agreed to donate 50% of the proceeds to Macmillan Cancer Support on our behalf. The rest of the money will be used to support projects sponsored by the Rotary Club of Towcester.

Rotary

The Rotary organisation is made up of 1.2 Million members worldwide. The mission of the Rotary organisation is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.

Amongst the thousands of local, national and international projects that Rotary has completed over the years, they have worked for over 25 years to rid the world of Polio through the “End Polio Now” campaign. Working together with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation we are now down to 3 countries that still have Polio. Helping Rotary, and their global charity, The Rotary Foundation, to continue their work is something we all feel strongly about.

Macmillan Cancer Support

One in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest thing most of us will ever face. If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, you’ll want a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way.

Macmillan Cancer Support provides practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care. The number of people with cancer is growing every day. Macmillan Cancer Support wants to reach and improve the lives of every one of those people. Macmillan Cancer Support are a source of support, helping with all the things that people affected by cancer want and need. It’s not only patients who live with cancer, they also help carers, families and communities. They guide people through the system, supporting them every step of the way. They fund nurses and other specialist health care professionals and build cancer care centres. But they give so much more than medical help.

  • People need practical support at home, so they provide anything from some precious time off for a carer, to a lift to hospital.
  • People need emotional support, so they listen, advise and share information though their cancer support specialists, website and trained professionals.
  • People need financial help to cope with the extra costs cancer can bring, so they give benefits advice, and grants for anything from heating bills to travel costs.

Together they listen, they learn, they act to help people live with cancer.

The Bike2Give team are doing their bit to support both these great organisations. Please help us to help them by making a donation today. We want to raise £100,000 and we need your help to do it. Please make a donation now and tell your friends about us so that they can make a donation too.

Thank you.
