I am a currently a student at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College studying my A levels. I have been selected by the organisation Project Trust to work in South Africa on a 12 month volunteer placement, teaching disadvantaged children outdoor activities. My year will consist of living and working in Knysna situated in the Western Cape region. As a volunteer I am required to raise £4,850 in order to secure this wonderful opportunity.

 Project Trust is a registered educational charity specialising in sending 17-19 year old school leavers overseas for 12 month volunteer placements in Africa, Asia and The Americas. The money I raise will cover the cost of support from Project Trust, insurance, training and travel expenses.

 Throughout this fundraising year, Project Trust have set deadlines to ensure that my fundraising is on track for the full amount to be raised by July 2010. In October I held my first fundraising event and raised £600.

 Upon my return I will be keen to share my experiences as this may encourage other young people to apply to projects like this.
