Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Many friends and family have asked us if the decision we have made to cycle the length of the country from John O Groats to Lands End with relatively little biking experience was taken in a good state of mind.  These doubts have only made us more determined to achieve this feat and prove to them and ourselves that we are capable of achieving what seems to be an improbable goal.

We will be putting ourselves through this gruelling 900+ mile ride in the summer of 2010 (hoping this will mean bright blue skies and sunshine – but I am sure the English weather will manage to disappoint us!).  The reason we wanted to carry out a challenge such as this was to achieve a goal that we are both extremely enthusiastic about – helping charities that are close to our hearts. We will be carrying out the cycle in order to raise money for two extremely worthwhile charities namely the Zambia IDEALS project and Best Chances.  Both charities are dedicated to changing the lives of young people albeit in very different areas of the world. The IDEALS project aims to enable and empower young people using sport as a basis as well as educating the local people about HIV and AIDS. Becky will be jetting off to Zambia this summer in order to fulfil her passion for helping these young, disadvantaged people to have the best possible chances in life.  We know that Becky’s journey to Africa will have a positive impact on the local communities and will hopefully inspire others get involved in the work of this charity.   The second charity is one which I am currently carrying out some fundraising work for in Birmingham.  Best chances aims to address economic and social disadvantage in the Edgbaston area by working to remove financial obstacles, which inhibit the achievements of young, talented individuals in the region.  Best chances has already been successful in allowing a number of young people to achieve their dreams and is hopeful that it will be able to support many more in the future.

We are already in the early stages of training as we thought we should get up and running in plenty of time so our fitness levels are at their peaks once our tyres hit the start line in John O Groats in about 6 months time.  We will be looking to accomplish this challenge in about ten days so we will be looking to cover approximately 90 miles a day!  Lots of work to be done but we are feeling confident!

Any donations would be appreciated greatly so please please dig deep and donate for this worthwhile cause!
All donations will go through Loughborough Students RAG and will then be split equally between The IDEALS project and Best Chances.

So please please please dig deep and donate now.
