Story
My awesome friend Dave Greaves was devastatingly diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2015 after several months of becoming increasingly more fatigued.
MND is a degenerative disease that results in death of motor neurons (the cells which control voluntary muscular movement of the body). It robs those who suffer from it of the use of their limbs, their voice and eventually their lungs. It drastically reduces life expectancy - 50% of people die within 2 years of diagnosis. It is also more common than a lot of people think - 1 in 300 people get it.
Since his diagnosis Dave has shown incredible strength and has continued to live life fully - as only someone so Greavy can. Over the last few months Dave has got married to the amazing Philippa, written and released a children's book to raise funds for the Friends of the Earth, climbed Kilimanjaro with Philippa (raising over £12,000 for MNDA), travelled around Africa for 3 months and tolerated a month in Kenya with me!
There's no way I can live up to Dave's feats either before or since his diagnosis, but I am going to give the Great North Run a go again this year (potentially sober this time around!) to raise funds for the MNDA. The charity offers vital support to those who have MND and carry out important research to try and determine the causes and potential cures.
Any donations that you can spare would go be greatly appreciated!.
