Story
Six months ago I couldn't run a mile without stopping. I needed a goal and a target to reach, so when someone mentioned the rat race, man vs mountain challenge and I realised how rediculous it was, of course I agreed to race!!
The challenge consists of a 22mile Run, up and over mount Snowden, complete with 5055ft of elevation gain, an abseil and an obstacle course to complete, just in case you haven't had enough by then! The average finish time is after nearly 6hours of being on the mountain.
The only problem was that I needed a carrot the be dangled to give me a reason to get me up and moving. Knowing that I am raising money to provide for a great cause is my motivation to get up and do something! How can I sit about and watch when I could be doing something to help?! I'm no good at nursing but I am good at pushing myself to breaking point.
With a lot of hard work, I am now up to half marathon distance but I still have a long way to go. I have clocked up over 100 miles so far in training runs, recorded and non recorded. The event itself if only one day of this massive journey for me. I will be trying to post details of every training session and update as things progress so keep checking back! If my stories and updates make you grimace or smile then that must be worth a few quid extra, surely!?!
I am training hard and putting myself through this, not only for personal gain but as a mark of respect for the friends at the wisdom hospice, who selflessly give their time to care for and provide palliative support for patients with life limiting and terminal illness. The hospice make a real difference to the communities of Medway and Swale.
Don't support me, support the wisdom hospice and the patients there-in. I can do this alone but they can't! The hospice needs you and every little bit helps.
